This first episode is titled ‘Thinking Like a Theoretical Linguist’. In this episode John Schettman Marko, who interned with ThinQ in summer 2019 and Madhav Kaushish, a ThinQ member, will be interviewing two other members of the ThinQ team, K.P. Mohanan (who we refer to as Mo) and Tara Mohanan. They are both professional theoretical linguists and educators. Mo received his PhD in linguistics from MIT where he did his Master’s work under Noam Chomsky and his PhD work under Morris Halle. He then taught at MIT and Stanford in the US, NUS in Singapore, and IISER-Pune in India from where he has now retired. Tara completed her PhD in Stanford under Joan Bresnan. She went on to teach at NUS where she left in order to spend time with her parents. At NUS, Mo and Tara developed their undergraduate linguistics program. They were also instrumental in the creation of NUS’s General Education program. Mo, Tara and Madhav started ThinQ as an organization in 2014. You can discuss episodes in the comments below.
